The Killer "B'zzzzz "

As a ride leader I've been hosting cycling clinics for our different groups.

Next Saturday morning June 24th I'm leading the B group ride.

If you plan to attend and would like me to talk or instruct you with something that would help you have more enjoyment with riding.

Please email me this week so that I can prepare,   nbt@cogeco.net

Tuesday June 13th A-B

It's an Amici first.

Tonights A-B club ride is going to be "hill repeats",    I thought that we could change up the regular ride of 50-60 km on a Tuesday and try something a little more challenging.

We'll leave Fireman's and trundle our way west along Mountain to Taylor Rd.

From there it's quite straight forward.  Drop down to the bottom of the hill and before Niagara College simply turn around and ride back to the top of Taylor.

First: it's not a race and everyone is encouraged to ride up Taylor at your own pace.  Once at the top at approx 150m before the stop sign turn around and head back down to bottom of the hill.

We know that we will have some riders who climb faster than others the focus is to not ride in a group but rather on your own.

I recommend that you climb at least 5 times up to a maximum of 10 x's.  The climb is 1.3 km at a gradient similar to some big mountains in Abruzzo .  The difference in Abruzzo is the climb is 20km's.

So you do the math,  1.3km times as many times that you attempt,   Each circuit is roughly 7 min.  Ten climbs should be 70 mins.  Great work out.

I hope you at least come out and challenge your abilities, you'll be a better cyclist afterwards.

Thanks,    Gordon

Saturday June 10 A-B

The weather forecast finally looks like summer is going to arrive wink

I'm finding this my second year riding with the "Amici" very enjoyable and I honoured to always pass on cycling knowledge that I was taught by people before me.

I've been on a half dozen or so A or B or A/B rides while being an Amici. We do have a significant variety of levels of ability within these groups.

This Saturday I would like to try to tempo ( cycling term ) the ride. By this I'm asking that we try to keep the speeds between 30-34 kph.

Let's keep the pulls on the front to maximum 3 minutes and rotate everyone through.

My plan was to ride out towards Welland/Port Colbourne. Then use some of the farm roads that direct us towards Ridgeville and Fort Erie.

Then home along the Niagara River.  While on the Pkwy we could ride a nice single file echelon, 2 minutes max on the front all the way to Chippawa,

where we could stop for a quick drink, or simply decide to head home.

See you Saturday
