"Covid Countdown to Zero!" June 29th - August 2nd

OK, let's see if we can countdown from nineteen to zero and complete (19) rides within the (35) day period!

Minimum distance/ride is 19 km.

A/1500 km distance challenge for the (35) day period.

B/1200 km distance challenge for the (35) day period.

C/1000 km distance challenge for the (35) day period.

Rec&Social/700 km distance challenge for the (35) day period.

You'll receive a challenge point for completing all (19) rides!

You'll receive a bonus challenge point for meeting the challenge distance at the level of your choosing.

You'll receive a participation point for every ride you complete during the period.

Please reply weekly with the number of rides completed and keep your own record of the distance you traveled and report it to me on Sunday August 2nd. mklein3@cogeco.ca

Good luck!

Slow it down...take a breath...smell the roses!

This week's Challenge for all levels will be to just get out and ride! Get out on your bike up to (5) different times for at least a 19 km ride, take the time to press pause and just enjoy the experience of riding our bicycles.

For those who may not have been aware, we have been tracking individual participation on our Leaderboard this season through our weekly challenges. No recording of how may kilometres you've traveled but rather how many times our members have participated in their solo or physically distanced rides each week.

Let's see if we can get a few more of you to participate in this week's "smell the roses" challenge! Get off your bike, take some pictures, share your experiences exploring the peninsula from the seat of your bike. Then report your activity on Sunday evening to: mklein3@cogeco.ca so we can tally how many of you managed to get out during this week. Remember whether it was (1) ride or (5) rides we'd like to hear from you.

Amici per la Vita

"Sundae Funday"! Sunday June 28, 2020.

Join in the fun this Sunday as all Amici are called to cruise the Niagara Parkway in Club colours! Ring your bell, blow your whistle, or call out to your fellow riders as you pass by one another during your rides! You might even pull over and have a conversation with someone, socially distanced of course, and then continue on your ride looking to nab more Amici sightings along the way. Given the heavier volumes of traffic on the lower Parkway this event will take place between the Chippawa and Fort Erie portion of the route. We'll aim for an 8:00 am to 2:00 pm ride window for those interested in participating. If you need to drive to a start point there are any number of parking pull-offs along the Parkway or find public parking in either Fort Erie or Chippawa for an out and back ride starting point. Hope to see you this Sunday!

Congratulations to all Amici who participated in the "Solstice Solo Team Challenge" on Saturday many of you achieved personal bests on the day! It was also gratifying to see so many other members who crossed paths with us yesterday  riding their bikes and celebrating the day together. The 5 teams participating totaled 2,848 kms. traveled an average distance of 113 km/rider! A great accomplishment on such a scorching day! Let's not forget the kilometre "kings" and "queens" for the day with Bill Reimer, Carolyn Van Der Sluis, Paul Jurbala and Frank Hayes leading the way for their teams.

"Solstice Solo Team Challenge" The Teams have been selected!

OK, before anyone comments on the team selections here's the disclaimer. The Team Captains were designated based on a pool of (4) A riders and (1) other rider who all have been consistently  accumulating high weekly distances this season. The remaining places on each team were selected with (5) rounds of separate draws from individual pools of Rec/Social, C, and B riders, the idea being to attempt to balance a range of abilities on each team and level the playing field for everyone.

So tomorrow, ride whenever it suits you and at a speed and distance that is comfortable for you. When you're done report your distance traveled to your respective Team Captain so they can total the distances traveled by their team.

The original idea of our "Solstice Ride" came from a group of friends who took on the challenge of riding from sunrise to sunset on the longest day of the year and seeing how far they could travel! Sante, Gus, Danny, Marcus and others would meet at the Donut Diner on Riall setting out at 6:30 am and riding until sunset sometimes riding 200 miles in one day! We were younger and more foolish then!

So now older and wiser we can celebrate the day and the daylight once again, each in our own way. Have fun, be safe and celebrate the day!

"Solstice Solo Team Challenge" Sign Up Now! Saturday June 20th

Let's have a little fun this coming "Solstice Saturday."

We ask that you sign up to be a member of a 4-person team of riders that will each ride solo combining their distances traveled on our "Solstice Solo Team Challenge".

Here's how it will work. We'll choose teams from those who sign up, we'll balance riders from each of the A, B, C, and Rec/Social ability levels on every team. Then each team member will ride solo  and report their distance traveled to their respective team captains. Captains will then compile their team's total distance traveled for the day. We will recognize all participants with an additional challenge met for the week! In addition the top 3 placing teams will be recognized with an additional challenge point for the top distances traveled as a team!

There is absolutely no pressure to put in any big distances, if you can do at least 25 km join us for the "Solstice Solo Team Challenge" this Saturday!

Please reply with your interest by Thursday evening to me at:  mklein3@cogeco.ca
