Complete 3 rides totaling 200 km. with one being at least 75 km.

Amici Challenges Begin this Week!

It was gratifying to see that so many of you took up the challenge today and got back on your bikes to ride in solidarity with your fellow Amici!  Even though we rode physically separated, we were together in spirit. Let's keep it up and continue to inspire each other to remain active on our bikes throughout this pandemic.

Your virtual Ride Leaders will begin setting weekly challenges to encourage you to stay engaged with riding your bicycles and meeting their targeted goals. Watch for the "What's New" blogs on our website and posts on our private Facebook group to stay informed.

We ask that you email your respective Ride Leader by Sunday evening of each week to report your results. They will be tracked on our Club's Leaderboard  showing the number of rides you were able to complete and the challenges you were able to achieve for that week. As an example a Challenge goal for a Social or Rec rider might be to complete at least 3 rides totaling 100 km. for the week. If you were able to successfully complete the challenge you would receive 3 participation points and 1 Challenge Badge.

Have some fun with this, post pictures of your rides and stay informed through our website, Ride Calendar, Facebook Group and Instagram posts. We're all in this together can take on a greater meaning if we stay connected.

Calling all Socialites and Rec Riders May 17-24 Ride Challenge

Here's what's up this week.   Are you with me?

From Sunday to Sunday, May 17-24 let's get those legs out spinning nice and easy but consistently.

  • 3 rides gets you into this challenge!
  • Minimum distance for each ride 25K
  • one ride distance 40K

One thing I love about where we live is the abundance of canals.  Find one and take a tour along it.     See how many Canada Geese you can count.   Geese love rain and so do we!

Report back to me by May 24 so I can record your efforts for our 2020 Challenge Leaderboard!

It's time to free your legs! Ready! Set! Pedal!

It all starts on Saturday! Pick your own time, follow your own route or have some fun and follow the clues that will reveal a 50 km route to you. Take a picture and share your solo experience with your fellow Amici on our Facebook group. No worries if you need some help with the clues and the route, a Strava route will be posted before tomorrow's ride.

Be safe...ride solo or with someone living under the same roof...keep your distance from those you may encounter along the way... but most of all let's just get out on our bikes!

The Clues:

1. Start and finish from the "flame retarders" home or any other waypoint along the route that you can easily travel to.

2.  Go a "roundabout" way to a bridge "newborn".

3.  Down a hill we go into wine country passing a piece of "Tuscany" standing proud overlooking the rows.

4.  At the "crossroad" that follows, let your instincts take you toward the "sunrise" before making a "concession" to turn where "weed" is now legally grown.

5.  If you pass an "icy red barn" you're still on the right track!

6.  In the distance you'll see a "barrel" perched beside the road, follow that line toward the setting sun.

7.  Take a turn on the "sixth" toward the "Great One's" Niagara home.

8.  A "roundabout" this time is no time to drastically change your direction of travel until you reach the "first line", it's "all right" to turn there.

9.  Keep it going, hold the "line" pass a "lumbering" landmark until you need to make another "concession" to your travel choosing to find the "hunter" and the "big head" that lives nearby.

10. From one "big head" to another brew with a "big head" follow the path to the "East and West Line" and head toward the "famous river".

11. Before you reach the "river" take a turn on a town street that shares the same name and head toward the "Olde Towne" with a "rye" smile on your face and feeling like a "king".

12. Alas the "pillars" of Niagara are "posted" to block entry any further into town.

13. Detour to the right is now necessary to avoid all the local protectors.

14. Pass a little bit of "romance" before taking a shortcut across a "wine estate".

15. Back to the East and West line again go toward the setting sun for a short pedal as you escape the "townies" "conceding" defeat to the "first opportunity" to make your way south again.

16. It's a "long and straight" run now cruising beside an old railway bed long ago abandoned, "counting up the lines to nine" with no choice but one turn at the end.

17. Next watch out for the "duffers" chasing that "little white ball", they've been let out to play again this weekend.

18. Keep them "on your left" as the road turns south again.

19. After a "short climb" go towards the "general" and climb to the top of where his triumph is marked.

20. We're getting close to home now, hold your course, "keep the river on your left" passing Tesla's discovery and a place where the "butterflies roam" before turning home for the final stretch at            Niagara's  whirlpool.

21. We're headed for the "mountain" now with one little detour before we're done.

22. "January" in "May" then descending "millionaires" to our "finishing climb" returning to the "Amici's summer home"

Good luck everyone!
