From the Oshawa Cycling Club

We have just returned from a lovely weekend cycling in the Niagara Region, a favourite annual event for our club.  This year we had 17 members participate, and it was neat to pass your club ride in Port Colborne as we arrived at the same cafe that is obviously a popular stop for cyclists.  I am passing on a few photos I snapped as your club departed while we were arriving.

Club Ride Level Classification

Category Pace (km/h) Distance (km)
A 30+ 60-100+
B 27-29 60-90+
C 24-26  50-75
S 20-23  50-70
R no minimum 20-30

We currently hold five different groups (A Group, B Group, C Group, Social Group, and Recreational Group) to ride with during the week.

The faster "A" Group will typically ride a minimum pace of 30+ km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. There are also sections of each ride where the tradition is for faster riding and sprints. During these portions of club rides, the pace is often in excess of 30 km/h. "A" Group rides are scheduled to be held on Saturday mornings and Tuesday/Thursday night. Weeknight (Tuesday and Thursday) rides are typically at a faster pace. (Distance: 60-100+ km)

The "B" Group Ride will typically ride a minimum pace of 27-29 km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. There are also sections of each ride where the tradition is for faster riding and sprints. These rides take place on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday/Thursday mornings, & Tuesday/Thursday evenings. This ride's policy is a no-drop one so the pace can vary quite a bit depending on who's out. (Distance: 60-90+ km)

The "C" Group Ride will typically ride a minimum pace of 24-26 km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. These rides take place on Saturday mornings. More additions to the calendar will be announced! (Distance: 50-75 km)

On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, there will be “S” rides. “Social” rides average 20-23 km/h. We may even stop for breakfast! (Distance: 50-70+ km)

We typically hold Recreational (R) rides on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. They are similar in nature to the Social rides but emphasize group riding, instruction, safety and the rules of the road for bicyclists. (Distance: 25-30+ km)
