Get your Two Cents In

Never doubt that a voice in the right ear can have a consequence.  As cyclists we can do more than just comment to each other.  Have your say!

Here are TWO things you can support HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!

Recently the City of Niagara Falls made some small improvements to roads the Amici Club cycles, notably a sweeping of Mountain Road bike lane and a repair of a "tire sucking" dip on Beaverdams Rd just before Beechwood.

NF Councillor, Victor Pietrangelo took this further and motioned that the City of NF put in a program to more regularly clean the bike lines they build!

Show your support, thanks, and appreciation by contacting other representatives in the City and Region:

  • clean bike lanes means more cyclists will use them
  • clean bike lanes will increase safety for both cyclists and motorists
  • when more citizens cycle on the bike lanes, we are reducing our carbon footprint.  This simple initiative supports our collective legal obligation under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change
  • access to clean bike lines encourages citizens of all ages to participate in a more active life-style, using them not just for leisure and exercise but also as an Active Transportation route.  Active Commuting at all ages has been proven to have a health benefit

What about BUILDING BIKE LANES?  Can we help with that?  YES WE CAN!

The City Of Thorold is evaluating a proposal to improve St.David's Road, Townline Road and the possibility of providing an active transportation connection to the Welland Canal Parkway Trail.  This proposal would be very beneficial to all cyclists and particularly anyone living along this corridor.

Such projects only proceed with public support.

Here's to a future with more cycling friendly areas where we will no longer have people who don't ride their bikes because they don't feel safe.  If you want more information on how your Amici Club advocates for safer, more inclusive cycling, contact me.

Amici

Sadly, we wish to inform you that Tony Gervasio passed away yesterday.  Our deepest condolences are extended to the extended Gervasio family.

When you are an Amici we say "friends for life" and life should never be as short as Tony's. Tony was one of the original "Amici" when we were called the "Donut Diner Gang", and many will have found memories of riding with him.
