During this unprecedented time, the Amici Cycling Club will follow Federal and Provincial guidelines to maintain physical distancing and has suspended the start of our group riding season.
This week, we are acutely, painfully aware that it would be a beautiful time to ride as the first week of our 2020 season.
And we want you to Ride, Ride Solo and Ride as an AMICI Club Member, FREELY.
Your Amici Board has:
- EXTENDED your 2019 Memberships to cover the 2020 Season. All 2019 Members, welcome back for free
- Ensured that all waivers from 2019 will continue to cover the 2020 Season, when we start to ride together
- Arranged insurance for 2020
With this FREEDOM to ride comes a responsibility. Honour the jersey. Get out and ride, look for each other and smile and wave.
- Limit exposure by taking fewer and shorter trips
- Separate through space - where it is safe to do so, ride or walk alone
- Separate through time - ride or walk when others are not out
- Practice safe cycling - reduce the risk of an ambulance trip or hospital visit

Here's some guidance on COVID-19 and physical distancing as compiled from Public Health postings:
COVID-19 is a very infectious virus, for which no vaccine currently exists. Even people who appear healthy and symptom-free can pass along the virus.
To reduce to the spread of infection,we must remain distance but still stay connected to friends, family, coworkers, and community, abiding by physical distancing guidelines:
- keep 2 meters (6 feet) apart from others
- stay at home as much as possible and avoiding all non-essential travel, except for:
- assessing healthcare or medication;
- shopping for groceries once per week;
- getting daily exercise
- avoid crowds and mass gatherings
Assess your own risk. Cycling can be a way to get your daily exercise. (Unless you are in a self-isolation period having returned for travel, being diagnosed by COVID-19 or watching symptoms. If so STAY IN).
If out riding:
- Wash your hands and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
- be cautious using any shared facilities
- cover your face
- clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces (bike handlebars, brake levers, gear shifters)
Group rides are not recommended even if keeping 2 meters apart, with the exception of riding with someone you are living with. The Federal and Provincial sport governing bodies Cycling Canada and the Ontario Cycling Association have also canceled/postponed all upcoming cycling events and races. As well, the Ontario Cycling Association recommends that clubs, athletes, and members “postpone or cancel any gatherings such as group rides and in-person group meetings for the immediate future” for the health and safety of their athletes and families.
Be mindful and respectful if riding on trails or roads. Some may not be open for pedestrian or cycling traffic.
We do not know when our season will start and will continue to follow provincial guidelines for re-opening our season. In the meantime GET OUT AND RIDE! We will only have one 2020 cycling season, however that looks. Your bike is calling you....
