A Message to Current & Prospective Amici Per La Vita Niagara Cycling Club Members

Over 20 years ago, a group of friends would gather informally at the Donut Diner in Niagara Falls on Saturday mornings and set out on bicycle rides together. The routes would sometimes change and the faces came and went, but the constant throughout the years was our love for the sport. Sante Rampado was often heard to say, "I love my bike" while Danny D'Addio reinforced the bond we all shared saying, "You are my friends for life!" It wasn't long before we adopted "Amici per la Vita" as our motto and soon came to realize that we would remain "friends for life" because of our shared love of cycling.

This year we have decided to take the next step in the evolution of our tribe by inviting others to join our group! So whether you're a "newbie" to the sport, looking to improve and develop your riding skills, or you're a more experienced rider who's looking to challenge yourself, we would like to include you in a group matching your skill level, with group leaders committed to leaving no rider behind!

I remain your "Amici per la Vita."

Ride Descriptions

Choose from five different groups (A Group, B Group, C Group, Social Group, and Recreational Group) to ride with during the week.   NOTE:  the pace is not your average speed for the entire ride.  It is what you will see on your speed sensor as you are riding and will vary depending on the conditions and composition of the group.

The faster "A" Group will typically ride a minimum pace of 30+ km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. There are also sections of each ride where the tradition is for faster riding and sprints. During these portions of club rides, the pace is often in excess of 30 km/h.  Check our calendar for A rides.... these are currently held Thursday and Sunday from Fonthill, and Saturday mornings.

The "B" Group Ride will typically ride a minimum pace of 27-29 km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. There are also sections of each ride where the tradition is for faster riding and sprints. Check our calendar for B rides.  There are morning, midweek, weeknight and weekend options.  This ride's policy is a no-drop one so the pace can vary quite a bit depending on who's out.

The "C" Group Ride will typically ride a minimum pace of 24-26 km/h. The pace varies depending on terrain, weather conditions, time of year and the level of fitness of the riders present. Check our calendar for C rides.  There are morning, midweek, weeknight and weekend options

On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, there will be “S” rides. “Social” rides average 20-23 km/h. We may even stop for breakfast or ice-cream. Please check the calendar to confirm the ride.

We typically hold Recreational rides on Friday and Saturday mornings. They are similar in nature to the Social rides but emphasize group riding, instruction, safety and the rules of the road for bicyclists. (Distance: 25-30+ km).  When possible we may have Rec+ rides.  These are longer and faster than the traditional Rec Ride.  Please check the calendar to confirm the ride.

Trial Rides

There will be a 2 "trial" maximum for those individuals who are not sure about join the Club but are interested in trying it out. Check the calendar and let us know when you're coming out.
